SWE and students

Standard written English (SWE) is a complex term for anyone to learn. No really knows that the Term SWE really means. Trying to explain it is the hardest part of the teaching SWE. It is a tool that needs to be learn to convey your message to your audience. I don't want to say that it shouldn't be taught in school because it is important to writing. Knowing SWE helps a person appear more educated for lack of a better word because it shows anyone who reads their papers they have an understanding of what they are writing about.
for teaching SWE I am not sure on how this can be accomplished. Trying to teach a subject that is monotonous can make it harder for students to learn. I know i wouldn't be able to follow it for long. reading material that shows how SWE is used might be helpful is showing how SWE can work but besides that I'm not sure what can be done to teach it.

That first sentence confuses me. I think maybe it's just the "s" at the end there. Also, I'm not sure the word "term" works. You might replace it with dialect.

But yeah, I think having the students read things that are written in perfect SWE would be helpful when teaching it. Agreed!

i really think that teaching SWE is hard to be done. having students read some material may be the best to teach it.

I agree, we first need to understand what it is before we can teach it. I really think everyone seems to be struggeling with it's meaning. I know I am confused by its meaning but if were not being taught SWE than what is it that we're being taught?

SWE is a nessecity! Grammar is the structure that makes up ones dialect. With that said, Not everybody likes to write for the enjoyment. Lots, and think about that word "lots", write because they have to. So if they write for a means of communication and not enjoyment, then shouldn't they learn a variety that helps them with the communication process while sounding intelligent? Just a thought.

I also think that SWE is important to know, however, I'm not sure if it is absoulutely needed in order to write well. Do you think that a student needs to know all of the rules of grammar in order to be a proficient writer?
